Getting transport's prices right: Last chance wasted

Yesterday's transport Council meeting failed to reach agreement on the Eurovignette. This had been the last chance under the present Commission for progress on making transport pay for its full costs, after its failure to propose a framework directive on pricing it had promised in 2001. "We lay the blame for this debacle squarely at the feet of the Commission," said Markus Liechti, Project Manager. Available in both HTM and PDF formats.

Swiss choose sustainable transport, again

Swiss citizens yesterday overwhelmingly voted for sustainable transport by rejecting in a referendum an initiative that would have expanded the road transport system in Switzerland�s environmentally sensitive alpine area. 'Reject Ecopoints compromise' says T&E

TENs guidelines - NGO reaction to new EC proposal

T&E, BirdLife International and WWF have put out a joint press-release, in response to the European Commission's new proposal for the revision of the Trans-European Networks for Transport guidelines. Professional drivers

The Directive 2003/59/EC, on training for professional drivers entered into force on 10 September. From now on, all professional drivers will have to undergo training in order to minimise safety risks as well as reduce environmental impacts by cutting fuel consumption. Public subsidies ruling
