Åarhus in force

The United Nations’ Åarhus convention came into effect last month for the EU’s institutions.

The convention guarantees the public access to environmental information, participation in decision-making, and access to justice over environmental matters. It means all EU bodies must publish all environmental information relevant to their functions and provide “early and effective opportunities” for the public to have a say in drafting or reviewing environmental programmes.
