Spain is the EU’s second-largest vehicle manufacturer (and ninth in the world) and a country with a huge potential for renewable energy generation, making it a key player in the decarbonisation of road transport.

T&E Spain advocates for the Spanish government to proactively seek for, and support at EU-level, the most ambitious protection of our climate and environment in transport-related policies.

This includes working in coalition with T&E’s members, supporters and allies towards achieving the goal of net zero by 2050, namely by:

  1. influencing design and compliance with CO2 standards for cars, vans and trucks, thereby bringing forward the shift to zero emission vehicles by Spanish industry and users
  2. participate in identifying industrial opportunities for Spain’s economic recovery and link them with creation of national eco-system to accelerate the shift to zero emission mobility. While on-road journeys are the focus, short-distance flights and maritime voyages also form part of this workstream
  3. shaping key enabling policies for the Spanish transport sector’s trajectory towards net zero through proposals for vehicle taxation, roll-out of e-charging infrastructure, creation of e-credit mechanism, establishment of efficient low emission zones in cities and ports, and a smart vehicle labelling system aimed to foster CO2 emission reduction.
