The electric sports car maker Tesla Motors is taking legal action against the BBC because of a programme that faked a scene in which a Tesla car ran out of electricity during a race.

The legal action comes as the Commission has asked the governing body of Formula 1 motor racing to set up a racing championship series for electric cars, as a way of increasing public awareness and excitement about new-technology vehicles.
