Most Europeans are prepared to compromise on the price and features of their car if doing so will reduce harmful emissions. That is the finding of a new Eurobarometer survey conducted in all 27 EU member states.
[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]It showed that two-thirds of EU car users said they would probably accept a lower speed if it reduced emissions. Among the survey’s other findings, 53% of motorists agreed with replacing existing motoring charges with schemes based on the use they made of their vehicle, while 71% said they would consider using public transport more often if they could buy a single ticket covering all public transport modes.
Europe must stand firm over its future targets for carmakers as it cannot afford to fall further behind China.
The decision to create a Europe-wide carbon price was right but creates significant political risk. The good news is it can still be fixed.
