The next round of pollution emissions limits for lorries and buses has been proposed by the Commission, and they will change from being a directive to a regulation.
[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]The proposal is to cut nitrogen oxides emissions by 80% and particulate matter by 66% compared with Euro-5 (due to come into effect later this year), which will require particulate filters to be fitted to all diesel vehicles. The decision to have Euro-6 as a regulation means the limits, when agreed, will become directly binding and will not need to be transposed into national law. The stricter limits are likely to cause a mild rise in CO2 from lorries and buses. The Commission has dropped its idea of proposing Euro-7 standards for a later date at the same time as Euro-6.
