Cleaner fuels and lower sulphur
A position paper on the revision of Directive 98/70/EC.
Key Recommendations:
- The mandatory availability of 10ppm sulphur should commence in 2003.
- The date when 10ppm sulphur fuels become the single mandatory standardshould be 2008.
- The European Commission should lead a review of other parameters withinCAFE and under the 6th framework Programme, to ensure these are optimised. This will entail an updating of the EPEFE equations to account for EURO IVvehicle technologies and 10ppm sulphur.
- The Articles outlining possible derogations from the sulphur standard in theDirective should be deleted as flexibility is accounted for by the long phase inperiods for ultra low sulphur fuels.
