• Transport emissions continue to rise

    Greenhouse gas emissions from transport continue to rise and the sector's share of total emissions is also higher than ever before. These are the findings of T&E's analysis of 2005 data submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

    [mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]- Between 1990 and 2005, transport emissions increased by 32.1% while emissions
    from other sectors decreased by 9.5%.

    – The share of transport in total emissions rose from 21% in 1990 to 27% in 2005;

    – Emissions from international aviation and shipping (both outside Kyoto) have risen by 90% and 50% respectively. In 2005 they accounted for 6.3% of total emissions and 23% of transport emissions. In 1990, these figures were 3.8% and 18% respectively.
