The Commission’s climate department has published a summary of responses to last year’s ‘stakeholder consultation’ on reducing emissions from road transport, and they reveal widespread support for vehicle emissions targets beyond 2020. The Commission’s proposal for a 147 g/km limit for vans was supported by 63% of the 137 respondents to the consultation. There was also widespread support for reductions to apply to all heavy vehicles and not be limited to lorries or buses.
Support for lorry and van limits
More than 80% of respondents to a Commission survey are in favour of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from heavy vehicles, and two thirds say it must be done through legislation and not left to voluntary measures.
