Current EU law limits lorries that cross borders to 44 tonnes; but 60-tonne lorries – known by various names, including ‘megatrucks’ and ‘gigaliners‘ – are permitted within national borders. The Green MEP Michael Cramer claims there is cross-border activity between Germany and Denmark, and if the Commission finds this to be true, it is likely to take legal action against both states.
Brussels investigates ‘illegal’ mega-truck activity
Allegations by a Green MEP have led the Commission to investigate possible illegal activity in which oversized lorries are operating between Germany and Denmark.
