Green capitals

Monday, June 16, 2008
The European Commission has launched a search for Europe’s greenest capitals.

It is offering an annual European Green Capital award for one exemplary city that is leading the way in environment-friendly urban living – both in terms of the local environment and by making a contribution to a better global environment. T&E will be represented on the judging panel. Any European city with 200 000 inhabitants or more (*) can apply, and the winners for 2010 and 2011 will be chosen later this year.

Footnotes

Some European countries do not have a city with a population above 200 000 - in this case an exemption applies.
