Nils Hooftman

Nils joined T&E in November 2025 to lead on heavy-duty vehicle policy, specialising in EU truck CO₂ standards, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and Life Cycle Analysis. He focuses on bridging the gap between technical research and high-level advocacy, designing strategies to decarbonise road freight while representing T&E in European Commission working groups.

Originally from Belgium, Nils began his professional career in 2012 as an academic researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he was awarded a PhD in Engineering in 2018. Following nine years in research, he moved into consultancy at The New Drive, where he specialised in sustainable logistics and promoted zero-emission technology through economic assessments.

Nils is a native Dutch speaker who is fluent in English and proficient in French and German. Outside of work, he is passionate about the environment and all things nature-related. Always up for some fun, Nils loves to travel and enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
