2035 must be end date for sales of internal combustion engine cars in Europe
In this letter, consumers, companies, NGOs and health experts call on the European Commission to set an EU-wide end date for sales of all combustion engine cars and vans. Only zero-emission vehicles should be sold from 2035 onwards.

Unlike the push by some in the industry to add road transport to the EU emissions trading system, the wider stakeholder community is calling for stronger car CO2 standards in 2025-2030 to increase the investments and supply of EVs.
Fleets should go electric by 2030 as it is already cost-effective to transition much faster. Improving vehicle charging infrastructure and helping the wider jobs transition should be supported with funding through the EU recovery fund.
