Efforts to address aviation’s contribution to climate change have so far focused on CO2 emissions only, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Non-CO2 effects account for two thirds of aviation’s total climate impact, as confirmed by the European Union Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) report in November 2020.

More than one year later, where does the EU stand when mitigating these effects?

Despite the EASA report proposing mitigation measures to reduce these effects, none of them made it into the Fit for 55 package and non-CO2 effects are once again flying under the legislative radar.
