The EU Commission has mandated the use of advanced biofuels and e-kerosene (SAFs) for aircraft as part of its Fit for 55 package.
The support for e-kerosene is especially important as it is the only fuel type that can be sustainably scaled up to meet the fuel demands of the sector. But the sub-target of just 0.7% in 2030 and 5% in 2035 is too low and by setting a higher target for advanced biofuels, the Commission is prioritising the wrong fuel.
