Successful speed limit abandoned
Spain is to abandon its temporary 110 km/h motorway speed limit.
[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]The limit was introduced as a money-saving measure when the price of oil was around $125 per barrel. It resulted in an immediate year on year reduction of fuel consumption by 8.4% and saved Spain €450 million in oil imports. Despite its obvious success, the government now says the limit can return to 120 km/h because crude oil prices have fallen under $110 again. T&E’s Spanish member Ecologistasen Acción says the move is a ‘blatant demonstration of incoherence’.
