• Road and air worst for warming

Road traffic and aviation are the means of transport that contribute most to global warming, according to a study whose authors describe it as ‘the first ever comprehensive analysis of the climate effect from the transport sector as a whole on a global scale’.

It breaks transport into road, air, rail and shipping, and examines the radiative forcing (warming effect) caused by transport emissions. It says when all greenhouse gases are taken into account, today’s road emissions will make up three quarters of the warming caused by transport over the next 100 years.
