MEPs want 2020 targets
The EU should impose a 20% reduction target for carbon dioxide emissions from the entire European transport sector by 2020, according to the European Parliament’s transport committee.
Responding to the Commission’s draft transport white paper that sets reduction targets up to 2050, the committee said the 2050 targets would only be met if a 20% target (based on 1990 levels) was imposed for road, rail and noise levels, and a 30% target for aviation and shipping. The Commission opposes interim targets.
