• Lower Sulphur

    All EU member states except Poland and Malta complied with the requirement of the 1998 EU fuel quality directive to phase out petrol and diesel with more than 50 parts per million of sulphur by 2005.

    The information comes in a report on compliance with the directive. No fuel with more than 10ppm can be sold after 2009, and eight states have already achieved this (A/D/DK/ H/NL/S/SF/SV).
