Letter: Urgent need for a Just Transition framework for Europe’s automotive workforce

Next week the European Commission is set to publish the much-anticipated Fit for 55 package, which will set out the regulatory framework for implementing the EU’s Green Deal. Industry, trade unions, employers and environmental organisations (including T&E) have written to the Commission to request that higher climate ambition is combined with support for industrial transformation.

This demands a policy framework to deliver a ‘Just Transition’ for the automotive sector to ensure the anticipation and management of change, including reskilling and retraining workers for the jobs of the future.
