While the environment committee wants the Commission’s current proposal on ILUC to be strengthened, the draft opinion from the energy committee says the existing science is too imprecise, and therefore fuel suppliers should not be required to report the ILUC-related emissions of their products. Contrary to the energy committee’s opinion, the Joint Research Centre, the scientific research arm of the EU executive, stated that ‘the knowledge of models is now advanced enough to estimate ILUC with the same order of uncertainties as for direct GHG emissions’.
