• Environmental groups & progressive industry coalition call on European Commission to publish RFNBO delegated act

Coalition of environmental and industry (including Iberdrola and EDP) is appealing for the European Commission to finally adopt the Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) delegated act and give Parliament and Council the opportunity to engage in a proper debate on this text.

In a joint letter, the groups criticise the decision by MEPs to pass an amendment to the Renewable Energy Directive on 14 September, which seeks to derail the almost final stages of the decision-making process in the Commission on the delegated act. A slim majority of MEPs voted to eliminate the additionality principle – the requirement that new hydrogen and e-fuels are met with additional renewables generation – simultaneously eliminating the legal basis for a delegated act on RFNBOs and allowing existing renewables to be used for hydrogen production.
