‘Break away from conventional thinking’ on transport technology

The communication, Research and innovation for Europe’s future mobility, is the first step towards the vision of an ‘integrated, efficient, safe, secure and environmentally friendly European transport system’ that the current EU Common Transport Policy wants to achieve by 2050. With discussion beginning about post-2020 CO₂ standards for cars and vans, and the possibility of emissions limits that will not be achievable by internal combustion engines alone, the Commission hopes to stimulate new thinking on cleaner transport technology.
