Aviation and global warming after the 2004 ICAO Assembly

At last week's International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal, Europe fought for the right to tackle emissions from the growing aviation sector.

In a briefing published today, T&E examine Europe’s options now that ICAO has postponed a final decision on emissions charging until the next Assembly in 2007. The conclusion? Europe must get concrete legislation to tackle aviation emissions on the table within three years or see ICAO close the door permanently next time the Assembly meets.
