The Polish government says building work on the controversial Augustów by-pass will begin again on 1 August.

Work had been stopped because the by-pass would go through an area under EU habitats protection, and no work may happen between March and July to respect the nesting season of certain birds. The Commission says it will take Poland to the European Court of Justice if building resumes without having respected EU environmental laws.
