What the EU climate plan means for vans

July 23, 2021

Vans are the EU’s fastest growing source of road transport emissions, but unlike cars the EU's van CO2 standards are so weak some vanmakers can meet them without selling any zero-emissions vehicles.

The EU Commission’s Fit for 55 proposal is a big step forward with a 50% CO2 reduction target in 2030 and 100% in 2035. However, without higher intermediate targets, the e-van shortfall is likely to remain for a decade or more, leaving far too much work to be done in the years immediately preceding 2035.

Read our briefing to see what this proposal means and how it should be improved.
