Vans are the EU’s fastest growing source of road transport emissions, but unlike cars the EU's van CO2 standards are so weak some vanmakers can meet them without selling any zero-emissions vehicles.
The EU Commission’s Fit for 55 proposal is a big step forward with a 50% CO2 reduction target in 2030 and 100% in 2035. However, without higher intermediate targets, the e-van shortfall is likely to remain for a decade or more, leaving far too much work to be done in the years immediately preceding 2035.
