Truck industry and NGOs urge governments to agree road tolls to cut CO2

September 24, 2020

Truck-makers, logistics service providers and environmental organisations have asked EU governments to agree a common position on the long-delayed reform of European truck tolling, a revision which was designed to help cut CO2 emissions from new trucks.

The letter is signed by truckmakers Scania and the Volvo Group, Clecat, representing logistics service providers, T&E, and Dutch environmental organisation, Natuur & Milieu.

The call came after Germany, the holder of the rotating EU presidency, removed toll reform from the agenda of the meeting of EU transport ministers to take place on 28 September. The letter says that removing toll reform from the Council agenda is “extremely concerning” and calls for a common member state position to be agreed “without any further delay”.
