As part of increasing the EU climate target to -55% by 2030, the European Commission is exploring how to reach the new ambition. The EC is reviewing the two main climate tools in Europe: the Emissions Trading System and the Effort Sharing Regulation. As part of that exercise, the Commission published an Inception Impact Assessment on potential options on how to revise the ESR, which establishes national GHG targets for a combination of sectors: road transport, building, agriculture, small industry and waste.
