Low-Emission Zones are a success – but they must now move to zero-emission mobility

In reaction to the looming air pollution crisis and the Dieselgate scandal, cities across Europe have introduced or tightened Low-Emission Zones (LEZ).

More than 250 EU cities have already taken such measures. This briefing reviews the evidence available on the justification and effectiveness of LEZ and recommends the way forward.
