Officials in the Indian province of Rajasthan are so worried about population growth that they are offering couples a free car if they allow themselves to be sterilised.

Meanwhile one of the world’s leading opponents of birth control, Pope Benedict XVI, has ordered a new ‘Popemobile’ to be built that runs on renewable electricity. The Pope, who comes from Germany, has commissioned Mercedes to make a car with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can run for 50 kilometres without emitting any greenhouse gases.
