California has moved a step closer to having lifecycle greenhouse gas standards for transport fuels. The final draft of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard was published last month, and could be approved later this month and therefore become law.
The draft LCFS has a lifecycle analysis that includes the production, transportation and use of low-carbon fuels in the process of making fuels, along with indirect effects such as any changes in land-use caused by biofuel production.
