Bunker fuels should be put back on the UNFCCC agenda, environmental NGOs say

[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]In two letters sent respectively to the Hungarian Presidency and the Climate Change commissioner Connie Hedegaard, the coalition is asking the Environment
Council and the European Commission to engage with like-minded parties – and above all developing countries – to ensure that this item will not be neglected,
despite the big failures in Copenhagen and Cancun.

With the Kyoto protocol about to expire, and the role of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
to be re-defined with respect to competences in limiting emissions from aviation and shipping, leaving bunker fuels off the UNFCCC agenda would be a missed
opportunity to finally tackle two significant and growing sources of emissions.
