Transport & Environment (T&E) is offering an internship within its vehicles team for a period of 12 months, starting in January 2022.

About Us

Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe’s leading clean transport campaign group. We combine the power of robust evidence and a deep understanding of the transport sector with compelling communications and impactful advocacy. We are committed to the professional development of our colleagues and invest in training from your first day with the organisation. Our people work across Europe: colleagues in Brussels, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Warsaw and London collaborate with our 63 member and supporter groups to achieve our mission.

Your Role

The successful candidate will be working within T&E’s vehicles team, supporting our work on road transport decarbonisation and electrification, including on car and van CO2 standards, charging infrastructure, pollutant emissions and batteries.

As part of the internship, the successful candidate will assist the vehicles team in steering the EU’s legislative proposals to reduce CO2 emissions from cars and set the EU on a path to 100% zero emission vehicle sales. You will also assist T&E’s campaigns to ensure an ambitious roll out of vehicle charging infrastructure, and help secure an ambitious final text on the proposal for a new EU sustainable battery law.

More concretely, the candidate would assist in:

  • Assist in outreach to the European Parliament and the Council of the EU, helping to secure T&E policy priorities in key legislative files
  • Help prepare and develop advocacy tools
  • Attend events and meetings with stakeholders, reporting back to the team when relevant
  • Help with the organisation of events (both online and in person)
  • Analysing new policy proposals by the European Parliament, member states and stakeholders and developing arguments to steer these closer towards T&E’s position
  • Drafting concise and informative briefings, blog posts and other communication material
  • Occasional support to vehicles director

Ideally you have a good understanding of how EU politics works, how the main EU climate policy instruments work as well as a general interest in sustainability and an aptitude for developing policy recommendations that are both ambitious and achievable. Good interpersonal and communications skills are essential as is a good level of English (the working language). Candidates should be able to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Candidates with a legal, economic or political and public affairs background are strongly encouraged to apply, though anyone with relevant skills and interest will be considered.
