Transport & Environment (T&E) is offering an internship within its shipping team for a period of six months, starting as soon as possible, ideally from February 2022.

About Us

Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe’s leading clean transport campaign group. We combine the power of robust evidence and a deep understanding of the transport sector with compelling communications and impactful advocacy. We are committed to the professional development of our colleagues and invest in training from your first day with the organisation. Our people work across Europe: colleagues in Brussels, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Paris and London collaborate with our 63 member and supporter groups to achieve our mission.

Your Role

The successful candidate will be working within T&E’s shipping team, supporting T&E’s work on maritime climate policy, including sustainable fuels, carbon pricing and green fuels infrastructure.

As part of the internship, the successful candidate will assist the shipping team in promoting sustainable alternative marine fuels via UN regulation at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), as well as via the EU’s Fit-for-55 climate package. You will also assist T&E’s campaigns to apply carbon pricing to EU shipping via the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme.

More concretely, the candidate would contribute to:

  • Analysing new policy proposals to the IMO, but also by the European Parliament, Member States and stakeholders and developing arguments to steer these closer towards T&E’s position
  • Stakeholder mapping and contributing to international and EU outreach to support the policy goals where needed
  • Coordinating policy asks with stakeholders and building new coalitions
  • Supporting the well-functioning of the existing coalition with other NGOs and think tanks
  • Drafting concise and informative briefings, blog posts and other communication material
  • Other relevant tasks

Your profile

Ideally you have some knowledge of how EU and or UN politics works, how the main EU climate policy instruments work as well as a general interest in environmental conservation and an aptitude for developing policy recommendations that would lead to positive environmental outcomes. Good interpersonal skills are essential as is a good level of English (the working language). Candidates should be able to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Candidates with a legal, economic, political science or engineering background are strongly encouraged to apply, though anyone with relevant skills and interest will be considered.
