Last year T&E showed that the gap between cars’ official and on-road fuel consumption figures had reached an all-time high of 42%. This has lead to no CO2 reductions on the road for four years.
We will be pushing for the introduction of a robust new test to close this gap and push the European Commission to set stricter standards for 2025.

By capping marine fuel’s sulphur content, the IMO delivered one of the biggest global environmental measures ever. Yet it totally failed on CO2 emissions by delaying the arrival of any strategy until 2023.

In the absence of transparent trade talks, T&E sounded the alarm on a string of EU trade deals that would be bad for people and the planet: CETA, TTIP, Japan and Mexico.
Only national parliaments can stop CETA now, but due to our campaigning the public will never again tolerate a deal that privileges private investors and does nothing to support our climate and social commitments.

T&E shouted all the way from the ICAO assembly in Montreal that the UN’s much vaunted ‘global market-based measure’ for CO2 from planes would require airlines to offset but not reduce emissions. Also, depending on the quality criteria that is set, those offsets could prove useless.
We countered the dangerous narrative that flying is now green and pushed for European flights, at least, to be retained in a reformed emissions trading system.

T&E sought to end the imbalance of trucks making up less than 5% of vehicles on the road yet being responsible for 25% of road CO2 emissions and 15% of road deaths.
We helped convince the European Commission to promise the first-ever CO2 targets for European trucks, while supporting reforms of rail freight to encourage greater modal shift. T&E pushed for improved truck direct vision and crash performance to make lorries safer, while keeping the focus on Europe’s most powerful climate tool: the Effort Sharing Regulation.
