• T&E supports Clean Marine Awards

    Feb 2004 - This year sees the first European Commission-managed Clean Marine Awards aimed at encouraging the reduction of atmospheric pollution from sea-going ships.

    [mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]The aim of the awards is to give positive publicity for environmentally responsible shipping, specifically low-emission initiatives, and to disseminate best practice. They are managed by the European Commission, in collaboration with the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), the European Shippers Council (ESC) and the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), and the European Federation for Transport & the Environment (T&E).The jury is chaired by Rolf Saether, former President of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and founder of the Thor Heyerdahl International Maritime Environmental Award. The awards will be made o­n 1 June 2004 at an Environmental Awards ceremony during Green Week, in Brussels.Awards are available in three categories:EU ship operator which has a policy or procedure of low-emission operation beyond regulatory requirements (eg EU-based or EU-flagged shipping company).EU shipper which has a policy or practice of using low-emission ships to transport their goods (eg EU-based manufacturing or retail company).EU authority which has a policy or procedure to facilitate low-emission shipping or shore-side activity in port (eg EU-based port, local or national authority).Download an application form or get more details o­n the European Commission ship emissions home page.
