• Oslo buses to run on ‘poo’

Oslo’s ambition to be carbon-neutral by 2050 has led to it using its two sewage treatment plants so it can run its city buses on methane produced from human excrement.

Currently, much of the methane produced by Oslo’s sewage treatment is pumped into the atmosphere, which releases several thousand tonnes of CO2 per year. City officials say the use of captured biomethane in buses will be cheaper than traditional fuels, and will help the city reach its carbon-neutral target.
