Cost of ‘two-seat’ EU in CO2 emissions

The EU’s continued ‘two-seat’ operation in Brussels and Strasbourg is causing almost 20 000 tonnes of needless additional carbon dioxide emissions.

[mailchimp_signup][/mailchimp_signup]That is the conclusion of the first independent study into the environmental impact of having the European Parliament in Strasbourg and the Commission and parliamentary committees in Brussels.

The study was commissioned by two Green MEPs, Jean Lambert and Caroline Lucas, who said: ‘ For the EU to have any credibility in its self-professed leadership role in the global fight against climate change, we must demonstrate that we will take action beginning at home, starting with ending the unnecessary climate burden of the Strasbourg operation.’
