Biofuels officer/manager

Do you have an interest in policy with an understanding of EU policy-making and politics, a genuine passion for the environment, and a desire to contribute to a cleaner transport energy mix? If you want to help explore these questions, and turn your ideas into reality, this may well be the job for you. We are looking for a biofuels manager to push T&E’s ideas in the decision making process in Europe. 

The role covers, among others, work on the upcoming revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. You will join our team in Brussels and work with T&E’s energy team.

The role will involve:

  • Lead T&E’s advocacy on biofuels in the context of the Renewable Energy Directive (REDIII) and relevant policy processes.
  • Draft various advocacy materials such as presentations and policy papers. Commission and deliver impactful research. 
  • Develop and establish relationships with representatives of the EU institutions - EU Commission, Parliament and Council.
  • Maintain contact and expand T&E’s stakeholder network of NGOs and industry players and assist with policy and coalitions work. 
  • Coordinate advocacy messages and actions among NGOs in Brussels and in different EU Member States. 

The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in EU energy and climate policy (experience in biofuels, deforestation, biodiversity is an asset). 
  • Very good knowledge of the EU decision making process. 
  • The ability and motivation to learn technical, economic and legal information and transform that information into convincing argument, and to independently develop new political, economic or legal arguments and evidence and use them to convince key stakeholders.
  • Good communication and presentation skills. 
  • The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policy-makers of different stripes, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level.
  • Project management skills including strong interpersonal and team-working skills and an ability to deliver to tight deadlines.

Excellent working knowledge of English is essential. Knowledge of any other EU language is an asset. 

T&E offers a permanent contract.This is a full time position based in Brussels. A flexible working hours arrangement can be discussed.
