Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe's leading clean transport campaign group. We combine the power of robust evidence and a deep understanding of the transport sector with compelling communications and impactful advocacy. Created in 1990, we have shaped some of Europe’s most important environmental laws regulating the emissions of cars, trucks, ships and planes, and we play a major role in shaping transport policy throughout the continent. Our people work across Europe: our staff in Brussels, Rome, Berlin, Madrid and London collaborate with our 60 member and supporter groups to achieve our mission.

We are currently seeking an Accountant to join our operations team. The position requires a person with strong accountancy skills.

The Accountant, under the direction of the Director of Operations, will be responsible for the accounting with a primary focus on general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable. He/she will also follow up the budgets for our projects.

This is a permanent full-time position.

The role will primarily involve:

  • General ledger;
  • Preparing and booking journal entries;
  • Account reconciliations and follow-up;
  • VAT declaration;
  • Accounts receivable;
  • Prepare invoices;
  • Close follow up of accounts receivable;
  • Accounts payable;
  • Approval process of invoices and expense reimbursement forms;
  • Booking of invoices and expense reimbursement forms;
  • Preparing the payment files;
  • Audit;
  • Work with the Director of Operations to prepare the audits;
  • Analytical accounting / budgets; and
  • Follow up budgets for projects.

The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant experience working in a Finance and Accounting position preferably in a Belgian based organisation
  • A good knowledge of, and dexterity with accounting software, notably Winbooks or equivalent and Excel
  • Having a background in the NGO sector is a plus
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and at least a working knowledge of either French or Dutch
  • Have a genuine personal commitment to environmental concerns in line with the mission of Transport & Environment
