High risk biofuels in the new RED II

The EU Renewable Energy Directive has been approved by the European Parliament and the Council and officially published. But one major piece of the biofuels’ puzzle - a delegated act on high and low ILUC biofuels - is still expected to be published by the Commission on 1st February 2019.

Transport & Environment is pleased to invite you to the breakfast debate High risk biofuels in the new RED II that will take place in the EU Parliament’s Member Salon on Wednesday 23 January from 8am to 9.30am.

The debate is kindly hosted by Bas Eickhout MEP.

The EU Renewable Energy Directive has been approved by the European Parliament and the Council and officially published. But one major piece of the biofuels’ puzzle - a delegated act on high and low ILUC biofuels - is still expected to be published by the Commission on 1st February 2019.

Some countries are already taking action on this matter. In the last weeks, the Norwegian government agreed to phase-out high ILUC risk biofuels as of 2020. In France, the National Assembly decided to end the tax incentives for palm oil-based products in fuels as of 2020.

Few days before the deadline for the delegated act, this breakfast event will be an opportunity to present new research on the matter as well as to discuss the criteria related to high ILUC biofuels and low ILUC biofuels.
