• What pathways exist to achieve net zero aviation in the UK?

Transport & Environment views on the UK's Department for Transport's Jet Zero: Further Technical Consultation

This is T&E’s response to the Department for Transport’s further technical consultation on Jet Zero.
In it, T&E flagged new evidence around aviation’s non-CO2 impacts. The new evidence shows that 50% of planes that cross the Atlantic cause additional warming over and above the carbon impacts from the non-CO2 effects they cause. Any credible strategy in tackling aviation’s environmental problems has to tackle these.
Furthermore, T&E raised the point that the Jet Zero Strategy does not contain any regulations that will require zero-emission aircraft to be used. Finally, T&E flagged that no consideration had been given to the UK’s legally binding 2035 climate targets.
