From CO2 standards to catenary trucks: What’s the future for low carbon trucking?

If done correctly, charging road users for their use of road infrastructure can contribute to the reduction of emissions from the transport sector. The European Commission is currently preparing its proposal for the review of the Eurovignette directive, which sets the parameters by which member states can toll roads. This revision provides an ample opportunity to link the Directive with Europe’s ambition to transition to low-emission mobility.

This dinner, kindly hosted by Christel Schaldemose MEP and Ivan Štefanec MEP, will aim to contribute to the current Parliament and Council deliberations on the newly proposed type approval reform. The discussion will touch on the key provisions that are necessary to make the EU vehicle testing system more robust and independent, such as giving the Commission power to re-test cars, having better market surveillance of vehicles on the road, having better accountability of national regulators, and increased transparency. Speakers will include representatives from EU institutions, consumers, technical services, third party testing organisations and NGOs.

09/04/08 - A Price Worth Paying: Making Road Charging Work for Europe

On 9 April 2008, the Slovenian Presidency of the EU in cooperation with T&E, the European Federation for Transport and Environment, hosted a major international conference on the future of road charging in Europe. The discussion focussed on economic, technical and political aspects of road charging for HGVs and experiences in Europe, in the context of the preparation of a new EU legislative framework on fair and efficient pricing.
