William is the Executive Director of T&E, steering the organisation to promote, at EU and global level, an emissions-free mobility system. He joined the organisation in 2011, working first on cars and then taking over as T&E's freight director. He led civil society's efforts to have CO2 emissions from trucks regulated for the first time in Europe. William has been T&E's executive director since 2017 and in that time the team has grown from 28 to 68 staff and the organisation has opened offices in six European capitals. T&E also started working in new areas such as sustainable finance, green batteries and clean cities. A Belgian native, William studied history and European studies. He started his career in Brussels working for a MEP, after which he joined Belgium’s EU presidency working on climate and environment. William is a passionate cyclist, a dad and enjoys reading, especially about classical antiquity. He speaks Dutch, English, French and German. Skype: t-e_william

Carlos joined T&E in 2015 after working at the European Commission's climate directorate and the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU. He was previously employed as a climate change consultant, advising clients on the clean development mechanism, the EU emissions trading system and other carbon reduction programmes. Currently he coordinates T&E’s work on non-road transport policy, covering energy, shipping, aviation and broader climate policy, including the Effort Sharing Regulation. He also oversees T&E's trends and analysis team, which ensures our quantitative analysis is of the highest standard. Carlos studied environmental sciences in Seville and completed a masters degree in public administration at Columbia University. He speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese, and slowly but steadily he is taking the opportunity to learn French while living in Brussels. He loves outdoor activities, including climbing, gardening and swimming, although in Belgium he more often practices them indoors than he would in his native southern Spain. Skype: te-carlos

Julia joined T&E in June 2015 and now leads its vehicles and electrification work across light and heavy-duty road transport. This includes policy and projects on car emissions and emobility, such as EU vehicle CO2 standards, sustainable batteries, and infrastructure for electric vehicles. Julia also represents T&E on the board of the Global Battery Alliance, and is an unpaid advisor to the board of Vulcan Energy Resources. Julia previously worked as senior EU environment expert for the Mayor of London and, as an advisor to an MEP, followed legislation on renewables, energy efficiency and sustainable transport. Hailing from Latvia, Julia studied European politics and French at Goldsmiths, University of London, and holds an MSc in energy from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, specialising in batteries and fuel cells. She speaks English, French, Latvian and Russian, and loves swimming and travelling in her spare time – as well as good red wine (with emphasis on oenology, not drinking, of course). Laura joined T&E in April 2013 after two years working as a parliamentary assistant in the European Parliament. Laura directs the energy campaigns of T&E and focuses on making European fuels policy more sustainable, moving away from oil towards better advanced alternatives, especially renewable electricity, and phasing out the support to land-based biofuels. She has worked extensively on campaigns around the Renewable Energy Directive and the Fuel Quality Directive, as well as the EU delegated act that labelled palm oil diesel unsustainable. During her time in the parliament, Laura worked on different files being discussed by the environment committee, with a focus on biodiversity issues, and followed closely the work of the petitions committee. From the east of France, she studied public administration at the Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg, followed by environmental law at the University of Strasbourg. Luca joined T&E in November 2018 to run our first pan-European grassroots campaign against the use of palm oil in diesel. From 1994 to 2005 he managed research and investments for financial institutions including BNP Paribas and ABN Amro. From 2006 to 2013 he was a manager at media organisations producing investigative journalism from Afghanistan, Laos, the Gulf of Mexico, Thailand and Italy. Since 2013 he has managed strategic communications and campaigns for environmental NGOs, including BirdLife International’s record-breaking NatureAlert campaign that stopped the European Commission from lowering environmental standards. He oversaw the Marine Conservation Society’s campaign against single-use plastic. Currently, he directs T&E’s programme on sustainable finance as well as various campaigns for sustainable transport. Luca graduated as a political economist in Italy and gained his financial markets license in Luzern, Switzerland. Diver, sailor and former windsurf instructor, he would gladly spend his life under (or just above) water. Far from shore, he finds consolation in cooking award-winning meals for Isabel, Clara and friends, or riding his obsolete motorcycle (out of town, of course). Skype: luca.bonaccorsi

Tiziana joined T&E in August 2020, after more than eight years at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action. Before that she worked in a lobby association in Brussels and at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva. Tiziana leads the team working to unlock Europe’s potential for zero-emission vans and trucks. At the Commission, she worked on the design and implementation of several climate policies, including the first EU legislation to reduce CO2 emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. A native of Sardinia, she studied political science and international relations at the University of Cagliari, of Florence, and at the Freie Universität in Berlin. She speaks Italian, English, French, German and some Polish. Apart from trucks on the Belgian roads, you will find her contemplating a beautiful tree or the sea, if available.

Andrew joined T&E in 2014 having previously worked for the Green European Foundation and at the European Commission's transport directorate. Andrew is Irish, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and law and a bachelor of law from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Since 2021, he is a member of Ireland’s Climate Change Advisory Council. Andrew leads T&E's work on sustainable aviation, which includes pricing mechanisms, new fuels and finally addressing aviation's substantial non-CO2 climate effects. He speaks English and French. Erika joined T&E in May 2021 as Oil Campaign Director. In this role Erika is responsible for building up and leading T&E’s new Beyond Oil programme. Erika is an experienced climate activist, campaigner and project leader, with more than 15 years of experience in developing and implementing international campaigns and projects, and leading multicultural teams. She started working on oil issues back in the early 2000s, while doing her PhD and postdoc research working with indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and supporting their struggles against the Oil industry. Most recently Erika worked for Greenpeace International as Senior Strategic Advisor, and was leading the work on the global political moments and supporting national offices in the development of their campaign plans. Erika lives in Stockholm with her husband, stepson and two dogs. She enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking in the national parks and in the mountains, cycling, archery and training with her dogs.

Having previously worked in the private sector and government, Faïg joined T&E in 2016. He holds a master's degree in international relations and a PhD on European energy politics from the University of Sheffield in the UK. Faïg leads T&E's work on sustainable maritime transport, which includes carbon pricing for ships, sustainable alternative marine fuels, such as hydrogen and ammonia, as well as reducing the sector's impact on air pollution and marine ecosystems in the Arctic. Faïg is an amateur photographer, avid reader and astrophysics enthusiast. He loves indoor climbing, baking cakes and has a life goal of petting every dog he meets on the street! Thomas joined Transport & Environment in October 2016. After obtaining his PhD in engineering at the University of Sydney, he spent two and a half years as a postdoctoral research fellow in France. His research was in the domain of environmental engineering and fluid mechanics, where he honed his programming skills and analysis of big data. At T&E, he analyses transport and climate data, conducts research, and has helped develop their transport model. Thomas speaks French and is making solid progress on Dutch. James joined T&E in 2017 as freight and climate director. His previous roles include director of Green Budget Europe and director of An Taisce, the national trust in his native Ireland. James has also served as a non-executive director of Ireland’s state railway company Irish Rail (2012-2015), as a T&E board member (2015-2017), and he worked for T&E in Dublin between 2012 and 2015, coinciding with Ireland’s EU presidency in 2013. James is a law graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and holds masters degrees in sustainable transport and real estate development from the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is co-author of Chaos at the Crossroads, a book chronicling Ireland’s development path before its post-2008 financial crisis. As well as with time with family and friends, James enjoys hiking, reading and, along with millions of other middle aged men, has started donning lycra and doing battle with various hills on a road bike at weekends. Sofie joined T&E in May 2020 after three years working as the policy advisor on climate, energy and environment for the Flemish socialist party. Today she leads T&E’s work on the future of the Effort Sharing Regulation and on carbon pricing in the non-ETS sectors. Before becoming T&E’s climate manager, Sofie worked on the shipping team. Sofie holds a master degree in international politics. She kick-started her career advising companies on their commuting policy. Sofie is a firm believer in the power of thoughtful, committed citizens to change the world and was the coordinator of Climate Express, Belgium's first citizen climate movement. She has an extensive network in the Belgian civil society and sits on the board of a just transition NGO (Reset.Vlaanderen), a sustainable agriculture NGO (Wervel) and the city of Ghent’s renovation support scheme (ReGent). Sofie is also part of the Sounding Board of the Belgian Alliance for Climate Action. A native of Belgium, she swears by the ‘Burgundian lifestyle’ of good food and wine. Sofie clears her mind by reading or going for a run.

Geert joined T&E in July 2019 after a decade in advocacy roles in Brussels for organisations representing civil society and industry. Geert leads T&E’s work on policies that will enable the electricity grid to integrate the millions of electric vehicles that will hit the EU’s roads in the coming years. In his previous positions Geert worked on a host of environmental and energy dossiers, ranging from the EU’s Clean Energy Package negotiations to Ecodesign and Energy Labelling policies to a campaign to ban fracking for shale gas. Geert hails from Belgium, but also has Canadian citizenship. He holds a law degree from the University of Ghent, a masters in European studies from KU Leuven and a PhD in political science from the University of Alberta. He speaks Dutch, English, French and some German. On the weekend, you can find him cruising his race bike up and down the hills around Brussels, in the fine company of the Brussels-based cycling group GS Fartlek.

Jo joined T&E in 2019 having spent four years at Grayling Brussels Public Affairs, where she held the position of public affairs manager. She headed the consultancy’s transport practice. Jo is part of T&E’s aviation and shipping team and manages their sustainable aviation campaigns which aim to address the impact of one of the transport sector's fastest growing greenhouse gas emitters. Her focus includes aviation taxation, the EU emissions trading system, and sustainable fuels. A French and British national, Jo has experience working in European and French public policy. This includes working on various public affairs campaigns for companies, trade associations and NGOs in the fields of transport, trade, tourism and energy. Jo graduated from the ISMaPP school in Paris, where she studied public and political management as well as communication. In preparation for that, she studied law for three years. Alex joined T&E in 2020 after working as a public affairs consultant and a parliamentary assistant in the European Parliament. As Clean Vehicles Manager, Alex leads on key aspects of T&E’s cars work, including sustainable batteries, vehicle CO2 standards and pollutant emissions. Alex worked for almost five years in the European Parliament as an advisor to environment committee member Seb Dance MEP. During this time, he worked on legislation covering the EU ETS, air quality and the decarbonisation of cars, trucks and planes. He also supported MEP Dance in his role as coordinator for the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group in the parliament's Dieselgate inquiry. A British national, Alex holds a Master’s degree in European political and administrative studies from the College of Europe and a BA in politics and French from the University of Bristol. In his spare time, one of his preferred ‘hobbies’ is talking about politics or football over a beer.

Lucien joined T&E in December 2017 following an internship at Tesla in Amsterdam. There he analysed and forecasted the usage of the super-charger network in the EU and worked on policies and programmes to promote electro-mobility. Lucien is part of T&E’s freight and clean vehicle teams, and his work is currently focused on accelerating the transition to electro-mobility for trucks, buses and cars. From Clermont-Ferrand in the centre of France, Lucien studied general engineering at l’Ecole Centrale Lyon and specialised in applied mathematics, business development and business intelligence. He speaks English, French and Spanish and has started learning Dutch. In addition to his enthusiasm for electro-mobility, Lucien loves travelling, sports like rock climbing and running, listening to music, and tasting Belgium beers with friends.

Denise joined T&E in 2021 to develop and lead a campaign on corporate travel, bringing 15 years of experience in the global impacts of business operations. She has worked on several campaigns for responsible business practice, including European regulation on mineral sourcing and due diligence in supply chains. She has also developed work on pathways towards sustainable economies and societies. Denise has a transatlantic background, having split her time between the United States, France and Belgium. She studied political science and economic relations in Washington and Brussels. She has prior experience in management consulting and corporate strategy, as well as in public policy research concerning international business. She speaks English and French, is comfortable in Spanish, and enjoys visiting natural and cultural sites.

Maik joined T&E in 2021 after working for many years at Greenpeace International focusing on land use in relation to climate change. Through a longstanding history in environmental activism, Maik is an experienced campaigner with a strong background in research, investigations and analysis. At T&E he coordinates public work on biofuels and contributes to the organisations’ policy and advocacy work on the issue. Maik studied biology and completed a masters degree in marine sciences at the University of Kiel, Germany. He speaks German and English and tries to revive his buried Italian and Spanish, now working with T&E’s partners across Europe. He loves his work for a better future, despite it forcing him to sit behind a desk for far too much time. For compensation, he spends much of his spare time outside, training his child’s football team, tending the family’s garden and satisfying his passion for carpentry by building at least one shed a year.

Fedor joined T&E in January 2019 having worked in the logistics and transport management sector. He had previously undertaken internships with the EU delegation to the OSCE in Vienna, the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, and the news magazine Der Spiegel in Hamburg. As part of T&E’s freight team, he analyses the technical feasibility of decarbonising the road freight transport sector. His other responsibilities include the EU's research and innovation policy. Fedor studied political science at the University of Freiburg and the National University of Singapore and holds a master’s degree in international relations from Aarhus University. Besides his native German, he speaks English and French. Apart from climbing and playing pool, he loves emersing himself in science-fiction literature – when his strained attention span allows for it. Otherwise, the daily featured article on Wikipedia will do the job.

Fabian joined T&E in 2021 after working as a parliamentary assistant in the European Parliament. As Vehicles Policy Manager, Fabian leads charging infrastructure and pollutant emissions aspects on both the vehicles and freight team. Fabian worked almost five years for Ismail Ertug, a member of the European Parliament’s transport committee. Fabian, worked on legislation covering the alternative fuels infrastructure, air quality as well as on the decarbonisation of cars, trucks and planes. Fabian holds a Master’s degree in European Studies from the Maastricht University as well as a two BAs - one in history and politics the other one in industrial engineering. Besides his native German, he speaks English and is trying to improve his French.

Anna works in the clean vehicles team on air pollution and air quality having previously worked within the automotive industry as a cars aftertreatment and emissions engineer. Anna's work at T&E is focused on plug-in hybrids, e-fuels, testing pollution from cars and trucks, and the upcoming Euro 7 emission standards. A Polish and British national, Anna holds a Chemistry Masters degree from the University of York. Outside of work Anna enjoys many activities including climbing, travelling and cycling.

Cecilia joined T&E in June after four years working at engine manufacturing firm Cummins. There she worked first in sales and marketing before shifting to public affairs, representing the interests of heavy-duty vehicles across all powertrain technologies. Cecilia is part of T&E’s clean vehicles team, focusing on sustainable batteries and on wider car emission work. Originally from Italy, Cecilia spent six years in the UK prior to moving to Brussels. There she obtained a degree in international business from the University of Sussex. Besides her native Italian, she speaks English, Spanish and French. Outside the office you may find her hosting a dinner party, playing with her cat Arya (yes, a Game of Thrones reference) or hanging upside down while practicing Iyengar yoga.

Matteo joined T&E in 2020 and works on making aviation sustainable with a focus on e-fuels and the non-CO2 effects of flying. As an aviation enthusiast, he finds it exciting to work at the forefront of the quest to attain zero-emissions flying. Matteo holds a BA in human, social and political sciences from the University of Cambridge and a masters of advanced international studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, during which time he was also a visiting student at Stanford University. He started his career as a public affairs consultant in Brussels, focusing on transport and energy. Matteo speaks French, Italian, English and German. Outside of the office, he enjoys experimenting in his kitchen, tending to his urban garden and visiting eccentric museums.

Barbara joined T&E in July 2021 after working for the European Commission’s climate directorate on the 2030 Climate Target Plan and the national long-term strategies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Before that she worked for an independent consultancy in France on ambitious climate, energy and air quality projects, in particular under the European Energy Award scheme. Currently she focuses on advocacy work towards making Europe's fuels policy more sustainable by phasing out the support to land-based biofuels and focusing on better advanced alternatives such as green hydrogen and e-fuels in aviation and shipping, as well as renewable electricity in road transport. Originating from Croatia, Barbara first studied English and French language and literature, specialising in translation at the University of Zagreb. She then pursued a degree in sustainable development at the Institute of Political Studies in Lille, France. She speaks English, French and Italian, as well as her native Croatian. Outside the office she enjoys various sports and activities, including hiking, yoga and going to concerts.

Giorgia joined T&E’s sustainable finance team in 2020. Her main focus is the EU’s green finance law, the Taxonomy Regulation. Previously she worked as an assistant for an Italian member of the European Parliament and in the business advocacy department of Versalis International, covering circular economy, recycling and sustainable development. Originally from Italy, Giorgia is very interested in the European and international political landscape, particularly on issues related to the environment. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations and human rights, and a master’s in European studies from the University of Padova. In her free time, she loves travelling and dancing to folk music.

Delphine joined T&E in March 2021 after two years in EU energy and climate affairs. As part of the shipping team, she works on accelerating emissions reductions of maritime transport, focusing on the deployment of zero-emission ships and the use of sustainable alternative marine fuels. Before joining T&E, Delphine worked in the gas and heating industry where she closely followed EU legislation promoting energy efficiency and gas decarbonisation. She also has experience in civil society organisations for the energy transition in Poland. Originally from Nantes, France, she holds a double degree in law and social sciences, as well as a master’s degree in EU public affairs and energy policies from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris. Aside from her native French, she speaks English, Polish, and is currently learning German. Delphine enjoys sharing good food with her friends, going for bicycle rides in the countryside, and whenever she can, hiking in the Alps.

Jacob joined T&E in March 2021 after working as a policy officer at the European associations for maritime and sea ports. There he dealt with legislation relating to the European Green Deal, energy and blue growth. He currently manages T&E's work on getting shipping included in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Jacob studied history in Edinburgh, London and Mexico City, with a specialisation in the history of political thought. Hailing originally from London, he speaks English, Spanish and French, and is always keen to practice his German or Italian, ideally over some antipasti. Outside of work you can find him with a pint or two of Guinness, cycling, and talking literature with his two cats (not necessarily in that order).

Manassé joined T&E in 2021 as a sustainable finance officer. Alongside his work at T&E, he is a passionate multilinguist and semi-pro rugby player. He is also fascinated in the world of finance, capital markets, governance and food. Positive and driven, Manassé is all about being active and spending his time well. Family and friends are the cornerstones of his life. The world is his oyster. He loves travelling and meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

Jessye joined T&E in December 2021. Originally from France, Jessye previously worked in the technology industry in Paris and Luxembourg leading software product development in the air purification and transport verticals. She studied business administration followed by a Master's in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the University of Luxembourg. As a sustainable finance officer at T&E, Jessye is responsible for analysing EU legislative files related to the EU Renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy, analysing French legislative files related to sustainable finance and advocating relevant policymakers of the EU.

As part of T&E's Climate Team, Chiara focuses her advocacy work on the revision of the Effort Sharing Regulation to ensure that national governments commit to the most impactful emissions reductions in the sectors covered under it, including road transport. Born and raised in Rome, Chiara studied Political Science at University La Sapienza of Rome and specialised in climate policies during her Master's in International Relations and European Studies in Florence and post-graduate studies at LUMSA University in Rome. In her free time she enjoys exploring Brussels and the surrounding countryside on her bicycle, taking advantage of every ray of sunshine the Belgian weather can offer.

Nadine joined T&E in November 2021 having worked on sustainable mobility policies in the context of EU youth advocacy and the climate-neutral transition of the mobility sector. She had previously undertaken a traineeship with the EU Commission, working in DG Environment, and worked as the Clean Mobility Coordinator at Generation Climate Europe. As part of T&E’s freight team, she is rallying support for an ambitious revision of the truck CO2 standards, strengthening the activities for the van CO2 standards and works on the coalition-building in the freight sector. Besides that, her responsibilities include the financing of zero emission trucks and infrastructure. Nadine studied Media and Communications for Digital Business at the University of Applied Science Aachen and the Zuyd Hogeschool Maastricht and holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science from the Wageningen University. Besides being a native German speaker, she speaks English, Dutch and (Brazilian) Portuguese. Apart from parkouring through the streets of Brussels and climbing (in the gym), she enjoys the tunes of her piano and doing her best to get a grasp on French.

Valentin joined T&E in 2020 as a data analyst for climate and transport policy. A member of the trends and analysis team, his in-depth research and analysis focuses on the aviation and shipping sectors. He is also helping to develop T&E's in-house modelling capabilities. Before turning to the environmental sector, Valentin studied engineering at UCL, Belgium, with a specialisation in electronics. He then worked as a designer in the semiconductor industry for four years. In his free time, you will often find Valentin at the gym or playing sports. He also enjoys reading about technology, self-help and various other subjects. Born in Chimay, he was predestined to enjoy beer and he particularly likes going back to his beautiful region. Besides his native French, Valentin speaks English and Spanish, and is taking advantage of Brussels' bilingualism to work on his Dutch.

Yoann joined T&E in April 2021 after five years working as a Mechanical Engineer in the automotive industry. He predominantly supported activities related to exhaust and after-treatment systems development for PSA Group and Faurecia Clean Mobility. Yoann is now part of T&E’s clean vehicle team and his work is currently focused on accelerating the transition to eMobility for light-duty vehicles. From a small town in the center of France, Yoann studied general engineering at Ecole Centrale Lyon and specialized in Mechanical Engineering during his final year in Imperial College London. He speaks English and Italian as well as his native French. In addition to his enthusiasm for all topics related to sustainable development, Yoann loves practicing endurance sports such as Triathlon, listening to electronic music or just meditating and enjoying the beauty of nature.

As part of the T&E’s trends and analysis team, Juliette is a data master, conducting quantitative analysis on transport and climate data. A native of Lyon, Juliette studied general engineering at l’Ecole des Mines Nancy and specialised in civil engineering. Outside the office, Juliette loves sports and spends her Saturday afternoon on a football pitch - ideally followed by a victory beer.

Max joined T&E in November 2020 as an intern on the Clean Vehicles team and stayed on as an analyst. They work on the electric vehicle market and on the EU CO2 standards for cars, with a focus on creating interactive data visualisations. Max originally studied environmental sciences at the University of Tokyo, before obtaining a MSc in environmental economics and policy at Imperial College of London, writing a thesis on rural vulnerability to fuel tax increases. Max speaks English and French and are trying to learn German. When not working on clean vehicles, they are running, reading and visiting the opera.
