Campaigning for smarter and more sustainable transport

Our campaigns

A smarter lorry

Freight transport poses a major challenge in terms of environmental impact and road safety. The share of lorries in CO2 emissions and road accidents is expected to continue growing, unless new and stringent measures are taken. Read more about our concept for a smarter lorry, and find out why EU action is needed to stop tank tourism in fuel tax havens like Spain and Luxembourg.

Making a noise

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), noise is second only to air pollution in the impact it has on health.  It is a major cause, not only of hearing loss, but also of heart disease, learning problems in children and sleep disturbance. The European Commission has proposed new noise limits for cars, vans and lorries, T&E is calling for tighter standards and faster implementation. Read our briefing and watch a video clip to find out what people across Europe think about traffic noise.

Let's invest in jobs, not oil

One of the most important steps Europe can take to save oil, combat climate change, and create high tech jobs is to require carmakers to produce more efficient vehicles. We want the EU to set future CO2 / fuel efficiency standards of 80g CO2/km in 2020 and 60g in 2025. T&E is also asking the EU to follow the United States and link any future financial support to the car industry to tighter fuel efficiency requirements. Read our letter to President Barroso, a briefing on cars and CO2, and find out how parts suppliers also support tighter standards.

Climate policy in the air

From 1 January 2012, the world's first multi-country, legally-binding measure to reduce aviation emissions came into force when airlines were brought into the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS). But the scheme is under attack from the aviation industry and countries including China and the United States who say a global solution is needed. T&E brought together key players on 7 February for a debate on the issues. Read the highlights.
