Campaigning for smarter and more sustainable transport

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), noise is second only to air pollution in the impact it has on health.  It is a major cause, not only of hearing loss, but also of heart disease, learning problems in children and sleep disturbance. The European Commission has proposed new noise limits for cars, vans and lorries, T&E is calling for tighter standards and faster implementation. From 1 January 2012, the world's first multi-country, legally-binding measure to reduce aviation emissions came into force when airlines were brought into the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS). But the scheme is under attack from the aviation industry and countries including China and the United States who say a global solution is needed.
