Sustainable transport group, Transport & Environment (T&E), today welcomed the Commission proposal mandating that member states build up infrastructure for alternative fuels such as electric charging points for road transport and liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling points for ships.

New financing rules for Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-Ts), approved yesterday by the European Parliament, will cause billions of Euros to be spent on transport infrastructure projects regardless of economic feasibility or environmental impact according to CEE Bankwatch, Friends of the Earth Europe and Transport and Environment (T&E).

Swiss citizens yesterday overwhelmingly voted for sustainable transport by rejecting in a referendum an initiative that would have expanded the road transport system in Switzerland’s environmentally sensitive alpine area. Analysis of the results shows that not a single Swiss Canton was in favour of the initiative. Available in htm or pdf.
