The lack of a coherent transport policy to shift goods traffic from road to rail has been criticised following the French tribunal investigating the 1999 fire in the Mont Blanc road tunnel in which 39 people died.

News: Swiss choose sustainable transport, again

Swiss citizens yesterday overwhelmingly voted for sustainable transport by rejecting in a referendum an initiative that would have expanded the road transport system in Switzerland’s environmentally sensitive alpine area. Analysis of the results shows that not a single Swiss Canton was in favour of the initiative. Available in htm or pdf.
