News: Environment Ministers Show Support for Cleaner Vehicles

During a discussion o­n Sustainable Road Transport at last week's Environment Council meeting in Luxembourg, Ministers appeared to offer broad support for cleaner vehicles. The Dutch Presidency was effectively 'testing the water' o­n the subject - the real debate will come when the Commission issues concrete proposals. T&E, along with the European Environment Bureau (EEB), issued a position paper before the meeting advocating stricter targets for the sector. The two organisations welcomed the broad support for such moves offered by several Ministers.

News: Tony Blair Challenged to 'Match Words With Deeds' on Aviation

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has apparently recognised the impact of aviation o­n climate change (BBC News 15-09-04).  In today's Financial Times, Jos Dings challenges him to 'match words with deeds' regarding a proposed disastrous Resolution o­n the table for the forthcoming International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal (starting 28 September).  For more information o­n the environmental threat posed by the Resolution, click here.

News: EU Parliament Fights for Europe's Right to Choose Own Aviation Policy

The EU Parliament today adopted a Resolution strongly rejecting U.S.-led moves to prevent ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) member states from controlling greenhouse gas emissions from aviation. The Resolution was passed with a large majority.

News: Weak Response From FIA to Formula One Fuel Limit Suggestion

In an open letter published on the commentary page of T&E Bulletin (June 2004), editor Chris Bowers suggested that F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone consider introducing a 'serious' fuel limit in future seasons. This could make for 'great drama' and benefit the environment said Bowers. Read the open letter and find out how FIA's Max Mosley responded. Looking forward to greener Formula One?
