The EU should aim to reduce overall fuel consumption by transport rather than promoting specific targets for use of biofuels according to T&E's response to a recent EU consultation on biofuels. If targets remain, the EU should ensure that 'good' biofuels, produced through sustainable production processes and with an overall low carbon intensity, should count for more than others.

European Parliament to vote on emissions trading for aviation sector, 4 July Emissions from aviation in Europe continue to rise, a new report shows. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from international flights departing from EU airports increased by 7.5% in 2004. The overall increase between 1990 and 2004 now stands at 86%, an average increase of 4.5% per year.
