Weak Response From FIA to Formula One Fuel Limit Suggestion
Wednesday, August 25, 2004
In an open letter published on the commentary page of
T&E Bulletin (June 2004), editor Chris Bowers suggested that F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone consider introducing a 'serious' fuel limit in future seasons. This could make for 'great drama' and benefit the environment said Bowers. Read the
open letter and find out how FIA's Max Mosley responded. Looking forward to greener Formula One? Don't hold your breath.
To: Mr Chris Bowers, Editor T&E Bulletin
From: Max Mosley, President, Federation Internationale de L'Automobile

Dear Mr Bowers,
Thank you for your fax of 13 August.
Your open letter was addressed to the wrong person, because Mr Ecclestone does not make the rules, he runs the commercial side of Formula One.
A fuel limit was tried in the early eighties, but was not a success.
Fuel efficiency is now a critical element in Formula One. We are also looking at the latest non-mineral fuels from renewable sources.
Yours sincerely
Max Mosley
